Alternative rock band C.E.IV were formed in the winter of 1983/1984, born out of the band members' interest in both music and the UFO phenomena. The name was chosen from the late Dr. J. Allen Hynek’s terminology categorising UFO case reports: CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE FOURTH KIND being the abduction of a human, by alien or unknown entities.
The strong interest in Ufology became apparent during early song writing and continues to this day. The band members are also deeply involved in the practice of Ufology. They participate in sky-watches, attend meetings, and write articles for various UFO mags/newspapers. They research and investigate the subject through close contact with witnesses and working alongside various investigators throughout the UK. The band also has strong links with UFO Organisations abroad, where invitations for live tours etc: are ongoing.
Numerous articles about C.E.IV have appeared world-wide in various UFO books and magazines, with enthusiastic reviews in the music press. Media attention is ever present with radio and television appearances, including performances, interviews and songs/music used in various programmes, including UFO documentaries. The national and international press have also publicised the band’s progress within the UFO and music fields.
As well as performing at various venues, clubs etc, C.E.IV have performed at numerous UFO conferences throughout the UK. They are particularly proud to have performed to an audience of over 800 people at Falkirk town hall in June 1994, the biggest one day event ever held in the UK. During live performances life-size alien mannequins appear on stage with the band, along with various lighting etc this helps to create an eerie atmosphere. Vocals, guitar, drums and keyboards with various sampled sound effects combine to produce C.E.IV’s individual sound. C.E.IV’s merchandise is also available at gig venues.
C.E.IV lyrics reflect the experiences and emotions felt by the UFO witness. The music/effects further enhances the mood through various arrangements allowing the listener to relate to the phenomena, perhaps even regressing on his/her own experience.
Brian Snr and Brian Jnr are the founder members of the band. Both take part in writing music/lyrics, recordings and artwork for CD’s etc. Brian Jnr also looks after the web site and all the technical stuff that Brian Snr hasn’t a clue about! During rehearsals and live performances a keyboard technician completes the band. They all enjoy producing music and working together but it’s the common interest in Ufology that really bonds C.E.IV.
